The unique terroir of the Assa Valley.
The unique terroir of the Assy Valley. What is the peculiarity of the soil and climate of the region? And how does this affect the quality of the grapes?
⠀
🏞️ The soil of the Assa valley was formed over tens of millions of years . The unique boulder-pebble soil formed as a result of river sediments goes tens of meters deep and is saturated with organic matter. The roots of our vineyards go into the soil for 12-15 meters and absorb all the accumulated wealth of nature.
⠀
⛰️ Another feature is dry air relative to coastal countries and a fairly low amount of precipitation. On average in our region winter and summer precipitation is approximately 600-700 mm per year. There is a wind breeze at the vineyard. During the evening there is a night breeze from the mountains, during the morning - a day breeze. Therefore, we do not need to chemically pollinate grapes to protect against moisture diseases, including mildew and phylloxera. The result is a surprisingly pure, organic product which is rare in the world of winemaking practice!
